No Need for Safe Exit for Advisors, the Nation Needs One: Asif Nazrul

top-news

Law Adviser Asif Nazrul has said that while discussions are ongoing about the need for a “safe exit,” none of the advisers require one — it’s the nation that desperately needs a safe exit from decades of injustice, misrule, and systemic oppression. Speaking at a national consultation on the draft National Human Rights Commission Ordinance 2025, Nazrul stressed that Bangladesh’s state structure has long suffered from abuse of power and lack of accountability. He pointed out that despite having good laws, the institutions have failed because of political interference and personal interest. He criticized the historical practice of appointing chief justices based on political will rather than independence, saying that some have even played roles in undermining democracy and human rights. Nazrul concluded that a nation cannot be improved merely by laws — institutions must be strengthened with integrity and independence.
